lake Safari lodge's location in Zambia

Siavonga is located at the north eastern tip of Lake Kariba and is on the border with Zimbabwe, Kariba town being on the Zimbabwean side of the dam wall. It is 100 kilometres south of Lusaka. When Kariba Dam was completed in 1960 it was the largest man-made dam ever built: stretching two hundred and twenty kilometres long, and in places up to 40 km wide. The valley was flooded to enable the creation of hydroelectric power to both Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Dam now also supports a thriving commercial fishing industry based on the introduction of kapenta (a fresh water sardine-like fish) from Lake Tanganyika in 1967.
